What to Wear for Family Photos in Plano
By Marianna · Golden Art Photography · Updated 2026-10-05
For family photographs, choose clothes that feel comfortable and work together without making everyone look identical. A small group of coordinating colors keeps the focus on your faces and connection. At Golden Art Photography, wardrobe consultation is included in the family packages.
Start with your setting
Studio portraits and outdoor family photographs can suit different clothes. Discuss your backdrop or location with Marianna before buying anything new. Think about the photographs you want to display at home, and choose colors that feel like your family rather than following a trend you do not enjoy.
A simple palette can be built around an outfit someone already loves. Repeat a few colors across the group and vary the fabrics. Large logos and several bold patterns can compete for attention, so try laying the outfits together before deciding.
Make comfort a priority for children
Let children try their clothes and shoes ahead of the session. Check whether they can sit, walk and play comfortably. If you are photographing outdoors, consider the actual weather when you pack. A favorite outfit that fits well is often easier to enjoy than unfamiliar clothes that need constant adjustment.
Bring everyday essentials and a backup outfit for young children. Before the session, share any concerns about clothing, sensitivity or routines with Marianna so you can prepare together.
Plan for the people in your photographs
The regular Family Session is for up to five family members. For a larger or extended family, explore the Generation Family Session. Coordinate colors across households and tell Marianna which family combinations matter most to you.
You can compare the current family packages, including outfit allowances and printed extras, before settling on your plan.
Leave room for real moments
You do not need matching smiles or perfect poses for every photograph. Clothes that let you hug, hold your children and move comfortably support relaxed portraits and candid moments. Read our stress-free family session tips for more preparation ideas.
Golden Art photographs families in the Plano studio and outdoors in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Your edited photographs are delivered in a private gallery within 2–5 days after the session. Contact Marianna to talk about your family, your setting and your wardrobe ideas.
